Why Mavoko Needs a New Kind of MP: Eng Wa-Kyendo's Vision for Athi River

Eng Mumina Wa-Kyendo, Mavoko MP aspirant, addressing residents of Athi River on the Real Deal campaign

For too long, Mavoko — one of Kenya's fastest growing constituencies — has been governed by leaders who prioritise personal gain over public service. Athi River MP aspirant Eng Mumina Wa-Kyendo is building a campaign unlike any other: grounded in engineering discipline, citizen accountability, and a proven 5-year strategy.

Mavoko Constituency, home to Athi River and surrounding areas of Machakos County, is one of Kenya's most strategically positioned constituencies. With industrial zones, growing urban centres, and proximity to Nairobi, Mavoko has everything needed to become a model of prosperity. Yet roads are broken, sewerage is failing, pollution from industries chokes the River Athi, and poverty remains widespread.

Athi River MP aspirant Eng Mumina Wa-Kyendo has spent years studying these challenges. As a professional engineer and lifelong resident of Mavoko, he has witnessed first-hand how poor leadership and zero accountability have squandered Mavoko's potential.

"We do not lack resources," says Wa-Kyendo. "We lack integrity in leadership and ownership by citizens. The Real Deal is about both — leaders who account for every shilling, and citizens who demand it." This is the core message of the Real Deal campaign, which has already mobilised hundreds of residents across Mavoko.

Wa-Kyendo's campaign is anchored in a comprehensive, costed 5-year strategy covering infrastructure, pollution control, poverty reduction, education, health, agriculture, and governance. This is not a promise — it is an engineering plan for Mavoko, backed by data and a clear monitoring framework.
